Custom T-shirt printing FAQ: prices, artwork, sizes and turnaround

Short, plain answers to what people ask us before and after they order. Pick a topic below. Still unsure? The contact page reaches the shop directly.

Ordering

How do I order custom T-shirts from Press My Crew?+

Pick a 12, 30, 50 or 100-shirt package. Split it across sizes S to 3XL, and choose your shirt color and where the prints go. Then add it to your cart and check out. You get an order number and a private link. You use that link to send artwork and approve your proof. The design studio page has a short video of a whole order.

Can I design the shirt myself online?+

Yes. In the design studio you can upload a PNG, JPG or WebP picture, add words, drag them into place and set the size in inches. You can design the front, the back or one sleeve. Your layout and files go with your order.

What if I only have a logo file and no design?+

Choose “Have us design it.” Pick your package and where the prints go, then check out. Send your logo through your private order link. We lay it out and send you a digital proof to approve.

What is the minimum order?+

12 shirts. Packages come in 12, 30, 50 or 100 shirts. Each package is one style, the Gildan Softstyle 64000 adult T-shirt, in one color, with any mix of sizes.

Can I mix shirt colors or garment types in one package?+

Each package is one shirt color. For a second color, add another package to your cart. Polos, hoodies, sweatshirts, youth tees and mixed orders get their own quote. Ask on the contact page.

Can I change my order after I place it?+

Yes, until you approve your proof. You can change your artwork on your private order link. To change sizes, the color or how many shirts, contact us with your order number. Nothing prints until you approve your proof.

Pricing

How much does a 100 T-shirt package cost?+

$399.00. That is $3.99 per shirt. You get 100 Gildan Softstyle 64000 adult T-shirts in sizes S to XL, with one front logo up to 4 × 4 inches. A 2XL adds $2 and a 3XL adds $3.25 per shirt.

What do the 12, 30 and 50 shirt packages cost?+

12 shirts cost $155.88 ($12.99 each), 30 shirts cost $239.70 ($7.99 each) and 50 shirts cost $299.50 ($5.99 each). Every package comes with one front logo up to 4 × 4 inches. The same size and print extras apply.

What does a back print cost?+

A back print up to 11 × 11 inches adds $2.50 per shirt, so $30 on 12, $75 on 30, $125 on 50, $250 on 100.

What does a sleeve print cost?+

One sleeve print up to 6 × 6 inches adds $2.50 per shirt, whatever its size. You pick the left or the right sleeve. A second sleeve gets its own quote.

Do larger sizes cost more?+

S, M, L and XL are in the package price. A 2XL adds $2.00 per shirt, and a 3XL adds $3.25 per shirt.

Is shipping included? What about tax?+

Shipping anywhere in the United States is free. Pickup at our Chicago Ridge shop is free. We charge no sales tax at checkout. The total you see covers the shirts, the printing and delivery.

Is there a no minimum or single-shirt option?+

Not for one shirt, no. The smallest package is 12 shirts. A dozen costs more per shirt than our bigger packages, because the proof, the setup and the box cost us the same either way. Need fewer than 12? Ask for a quote and we will tell you what we can do.

Do you offer wholesale or reseller pricing?+

Our package prices are already our bulk prices. If you order often, like a school or a print shop, ask us about a standing price on the contact page. There is no wholesale account to open.

Artwork & files

What file types do you accept for artwork?+

PNG, JPG, WebP and PDF, up to 10 MB each. Made your design in Illustrator, Photoshop or Canva, or as an SVG? Save it as a PDF or a large PNG first. The design studio shows PNG, JPG and WebP files. To send a PDF, choose “Have us design it” or use your private order link. On that link you can send up to 5 files for each print spot. Before you pay, the cart takes one file per spot.

How big should my artwork file be?+

You need 300 pixels for every inch you print. A 4 × 4 inches front logo needs 1200 × 1200 pixels. A 11 × 11 inches back print needs 3300 × 3300 pixels. A 6 × 6 inches sleeve print needs 1800 × 1800 pixels. Your logo does not have to be square. A logo 4 inches wide and 2 inches tall needs 1200 × 600 pixels.

Will changing my file to 300 DPI fix a blurry logo?+

No. Changing that number adds no detail, so the picture stays just as blurry. Look for the original file, or ask whoever made your logo. If all you have is a small, blurry copy, we can quote to redraw it.

Will the background of my picture print as a box?+

Yes, if it is in the file. Whatever is in your file prints, including a white, black or colored box. Save your logo as a PNG with a see-through, or transparent, background. A gray-and-white checkerboard in a screenshot is not see-through. It is part of the picture, and it prints.

Can my white logo stay white on a dark shirt?+

Yes. We can print white. Keep white letters and shapes in your file, and make only the parts you don’t want see-through. You don’t need to add a white layer yourself. We print one under the colors where it is needed.

How small can words and lines be?+

Keep words at least 6 point and lines at least 1 point thick. That is the smallest we can print cleanly, and it is tiny. Make phone numbers and anything people must read much bigger. To check, print your design on paper at its real size.

Can you print a photo on a T-shirt?+

Yes. Our prints handle photos and smooth color fades. Send the biggest, original photo you have, not a screenshot or one sent by text. Tell us how to crop it and how big you want it. Then check faces and small details on your proof.

Why might a QR code scan on screen but not on the shirt?+

A code on a shirt can be too small, too light, or bent by the fabric. Make it dark on a light background. Leave a clear border around it, at least as wide as four of its little squares. Test a paper print at its real size, then test the shirt when it arrives. Wear and washing can make a code harder to scan, so check it now and then.

Can you fix or recreate a low-quality logo?+

Often, yes. Send what you have and tell us what is wrong in your artwork notes. On the proof, we tell you if it will print cleanly or needs redrawing. Redrawing costs extra, and we quote it first.

Printing, feel & color

How does the printing work?+

We use DTF, short for direct-to-film. We print your design in full color onto a film, then heat-press it onto each shirt at our Chicago Ridge shop. It handles photos, color fades and fine detail. There is no extra charge per color and no screen setup fee. Mugs are different: we print them with sublimation, a dye process, because film won’t stick to a glazed mug.

Is this screen printing?+

No. We print DTF transfers and heat-press them. We don’t screen print. For crew orders, DTF usually costs less for logos with lots of colors or a photo, because there are no screens to set up. Our DTF vs. screen printing guide explains the difference honestly, including when screen printing is the better choice.

Why does the print feel smoother than the shirt?+

A DTF print is a thin layer on top of the fabric, so it feels smoother than the cotton around it. A big solid design is easier to feel than an open one with gaps. Smooth is normal. Lifting edges or a cracked print are not, so tell us if you see those.

How can I make a big design feel lighter?+

Cut down big solid blocks behind the design, leave more open space, or use a smaller print. Keep enough of the design that it still reads well. A screen preview can’t show how the print will feel.

Why don’t the print colors match my screen?+

A screen makes its own light. A shirt only reflects light. So some screen colors can’t be printed exactly. The shirt color and the light in the room change things, too. If a color really matters, like your brand color, tell us before you approve your proof.

Should I change my artwork to CMYK?+

No. Send it in RGB, which most programs use already, and we handle the rest. Switching to CMYK yourself usually does not fix dull colors. Send the original and tell us which colors matter.

Does the shirt change how the print looks?+

Yes. The fabric, color and fit all change how a print looks and feels. Most colors of the Gildan Softstyle 64000 adult T-shirt are all cotton. Sport Grey is mostly cotton with a little polyester, so it feels a little different. If you switch to a different shirt, check the new proof closely.

Garments & sizes

Which shirt do you print on?+

The Gildan Softstyle 64000 adult T-shirt. It is a soft, mid-weight cotton tee with a tear-away label. We carry it in 9 colors on this site. The size and fit guide has the measurements.

How do the shirts fit?+

The Softstyle 64000 is a modern adult fit, a little slimmer than a classic heavy tee. Size labels differ from brand to brand. So lay a shirt that fits you flat, measure across the chest and down the length, and compare it with our size chart. Between sizes? Size up.

Do you offer youth sizes, polos or hoodies?+

Yes, as quoted packages. Youth tees, polos, crewneck sweatshirts and hoodies are on the deals page with starting prices. Our online tee packages come in S to 3XL. For XS, 4XL or a sports shirt, tell us the sizes, how many you need and what they are for. We will quote it.

Can you print long sleeve tees, tote bags, aprons or mugs?+

Yes. Long sleeves, hi-vis work tees, polos, fleece, aprons and cotton totes are all packages on this site, printed with the same DTF transfers. We also print 15 oz ceramic mugs with sublimation, a different process. The ink becomes part of the mug’s coating, so it is dishwasher safe. For anything else, tell us the item and how many on the contact page.

Can I bring my own shirts to be printed?+

No. Every package includes the shirts, and we don’t print on shirts customers bring in. We don’t press transfers customers bought, either: we print our own. If you love a certain style, send us its brand and style number on the contact page. We will tell you if we can get it.

What if a shirt color or size is out of stock?+

If the mill runs out of a color or size, we tell you before we print. We offer a swap, or we send part of the order first. A swapped shirt can fit or feel a little different, so check it before you say yes.

Proofs & reorders

Do I get to approve a proof before printing?+

Always. After you pay, we make a digital proof. It shows where each print goes, how big it is and its colors on your shirt color. We post it on your private proof page. Nothing prints until you approve it there.

Will my shirts look exactly like the online preview?+

Close, but not exactly. The design studio shows a rough layout, and your proof confirms the details. A screen can’t show the real color, texture or feel of a printed shirt. Ask us about anything that isn’t clear before you approve.

What should I check before I approve my proof?+

Check the shirt style and color, and how many of each size. Read every word and look at every part of the logo. Check the size and spot of each print, and which side it is on. Check your confirmed date. Remove any sample words. Our blog has a five-step proof checklist.

How do I reorder the same design?+

Contact us with your old order number and the new size counts. Tell us if anything should change: the shirt, the color, the print size or the artwork. If something was wrong last time, say exactly what, so we fix it. You get a new proof to check.

Shipping & turnaround

How long does an order take?+

It depends on the size of the job and on shirt stock, so we don’t publish a fixed time. We confirm your production date on your digital proof, before anything prints. The clock starts once you have paid and approved the proof. Shipping adds 1 to 5 business days. Need it sooner? Rush is $25.00 at checkout and moves your job to the front of the line.

Do you do same day or rush orders?+

Not same day. Rush is a $25.00 option at checkout. It moves your job to the front of the line, and we confirm the date on your proof. Either way, put the date you need them in “Need them by” at checkout. We will tell you honestly if we can make it.

Where do you ship?+

Anywhere in the United States. If you are close by, you can also pick up your shirts at our shop in Chicago Ridge, Illinois. That is just southwest of Chicago.

Will my order come in more than one shipment?+

We ship your order all at once, unless you ask us to split it. If something seems missing, check the tracking on your order status page. Then contact us with your order number and what you received.

Washing & care

How should I wash my printed T-shirt?+

Turn it inside out. Wash it in cold water. Hang it to dry, or tumble dry on low. Don’t use bleach, and never iron the print. If the shirt’s own label is stricter, follow that too.

Can a printed shirt go in the dryer?+

Yes, on low heat. Hanging it to dry is even gentler. Skip high heat and extra time in the dryer. A photo print needs the same care as a logo.

Can I iron my printed shirt?+

Not on the print. You can iron the parts with no print, as the shirt’s label says. Keep the iron off the design, even from the inside. Don’t try to fix a lifting print with a home iron. Contact us instead.

How many washes will my print last?+

No honest printer can promise one number for every shirt. It depends on the shirt, the size of the print, and how it is washed and dried. Follow the care steps, and the print has its best chance. If it wears out fast, send us photos and your order number.

What should I do if my print peels, cracks or fades?+

Don’t pick at it, and don’t try to press it back on. Take a close photo and one of the whole shirt. Write down how it was washed and dried. Then reply to any email we sent about your order, with the photos attached, and keep the shirt. Our returns and reprints policy says what is covered.

Problems & reprints

What if a print is crooked, missing or different from my proof?+

Reply to any email we sent about your order, with clear photos of each problem print attached. Say which shirts and how many. If a print does not match the proof you approved, we reprint or credit it at our cost. Tell us within 10 business days of delivery.

What if a shirt arrives with a hole or a damaged print?+

Keep the shirt. Take a photo of the problem and one of the whole shirt. Reply to any email we sent about your order with the photos attached, within 10 business days of delivery. We reprint or credit faulty pieces at our cost. If we ask for them back, we pay the shipping.

What if my box arrives damaged or never arrives?+

If the box arrives damaged, tell us within 5 business days of delivery. Reply to any email we sent about your order with photos attached, and keep the box and packing. If it hasn’t arrived, check the tracking on your order status page. Then contact us with your order number.

Can I return custom printed shirts?+

Not for a change of mind. Printed shirts are made to your approved proof, so we can’t resell them. The same goes for extra shirts and sizes that don’t fit, so check the size chart before you order. If we made a mistake, or a shirt is faulty, we reprint or credit it. See our returns and reprints policy.

Payment & who we are

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on Stripe’s secure checkout page, right after you record your order. Your card details never touch our server. Your private order page shows whether you have paid. Nothing prints until you approve your proof.
